Don't Lose Your Data -- Back It Up!

What's your contingency plan? We know how important your data is. If hardware fails, natural disaster strikes, a theft occurs, or a system outage causes you to lose your data, it will be gone forever. Without it, your business could come to a screaming halt -- Sales records lost, expensive software gone, and employee data unrecoverable. So what is it you can do to ensure you're not stuck up a river without a paddle?

You can back up your data. Then back it up once more!

The industry standard is the 3-2-1 back up method.

With the 3-2-1 method you are keeping three separate copies of the same data. This includes the original data and at least two other copies with one of the copies being offsite.

How this breaks down:

Create 3 copies of data.
Keep data on 2 types of storage media.
Store 1 of these offsite.

There's no limit to how many copies of data you can keep. The more, the merrier. 3 copies is the minimum, however.

Keeping your information on one device ensures a greater risk of losing it all. It's best to keep at least 2 copies on second devices like network attached drives or a local external hard drive.
